Recently I started teaching fun creativity classes. These classes are more about practicing the act of making and creating. I have aimed my in person classes at adults and encouraging them just to enjoy the process and not worry about the product. But these can also be great class for kids. Especially if you are all at home and needing some fun creative activities or even if you want to work them into a homeschooling lesson. This video tutorial shows you how to make a galaxy painting with watercolors and a few other simple supplies. Watch below.

Why make a Galaxy Painting
Galaxies are fun and whimsical. Best yet with this painting tutorial there really isn’t a way you can go wrong. It uses a simple watercolor technique of color bleeding. Letting the colors mix and blend together because of the saturated paper is a great example of art therapy. It can be very relaxing.
Use a Galaxy Painting as a school lesson
If you want to work this galaxy painting tutorial into a lesson plan you have many space related options.
- Constellations
- Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)
- History of the space race
Supplies for a Galaxy Painting
The supplies needed are very simple.
- Watercolor paper
- Watercolor paints. I like this set by Prang or this one by Art Philosophy.
- Watercolor brushes. These are my favorite but these work great too.
- Palette or white plate
- Artist tape or blue painter’s tape
- Clipboard (optional)
- Water in two mixing cups
- White acrylic ink, paint pen, and or gel pen.
