Over our snow bound weekend I was still playing catch up on my #MakeWithMe daily drawing challenge. The only thing that has been “daily” about me and this challenge are the lovely emails from Janine Crum each morning. My dedication to sit down every day and do them didn’t match up so I was very thankful for the days spent cozy in my house by the fireplace pen and paper in hand.
I love to draw from nature. I find the most inspiration from trees and plants and flowers. All of this probably has to do with my love of gardening.

Even though nature is a subject I love and comes easy to me, some of these prompts stretched skills I hadn’t used in quite some time. I ended up using a lot of pointillism in ones such as the galaxy sketch, anthill, and shoreline. The constant dotting gets to me after awhile and I tend to want to run screaming. lol.
But for some unknown reason I kept going back to this method. Maybe subconsciously I’m pushing myself past my comfortable way of drawing. When I was in school the teacher constantly brought out different ways of doing things. Building on what he had learned before. With all these years of no one to be accountable to for my art, it just stayed where it was. There was no one to challenge me.
