Art is work. Creativity takes as much out of you as any other job. Sometimes more.
You can buy my artwork online!
It’s been years but I am once again an Etsy seller.
In an effort to make my artwork accessable to more people than who i see on a daily basis I have opened and Etsy shop. I figured this was the best way to handle online sales until I can figure out how to get it all set up here. But I maybe probably will definitely be lazy about this so I foresee the Etsy shop hanging around for a while.
Creative work is the hardest work I’ve ever done. It involves your heart and your head and your insecurities. But I’m older these days than I was back then. My skin is a little thicker and I’m not out to cover all the “in ideas” or “hot trends”. I’ve found the focus in my creative work. In my art as work.
ALL of what you said, and on top of that, when your creative self and your work self are smooshed together into one self, art starts sapping more of your energy. Making art is no longer the place where you go to recharge – you have to recharge to make art. At least, that’s my experience. Since I started writing and making as my job, I find that at the end of the day I am often spent in a way that I wasn’t when I worked an office job. I love it, but I’m not playing around all day… and it’s certainly not always “fun”.
Your work is amazing, and I hope you do more! 🙂
All of what you said too! But do feel more fulfilled when I spend all day at a desk doing art instead of all day at a desk not doing art. I’ll work later and have no problem getting up. And thank you for the compliments.
Oh, yes it does! It is very personal and when you love what you are doing, you tend to work extra hard. Because, as artists, we are our own worst critics and perfectionists. Good luck with your etsy shop!
Critic and perfectionist. You couldn’t be more right.
